Indian Spacetech Playbook – A WIP Treatise on What to Build

Can you be our GPS? You take a wrong turn and the GPS course corrects you to the right destination. We want you to do that as we build this report. We want to learn from your wisdom & calibrate this report so that this document is the first port of call for a spacetech startup. Our Playbook reflects a point of view. We believe that rockets and satellites now act as infrastructure, and the largest economic outcomes will come from the use of this infrastructure. Our inferences are based on some assumptions that will benefit from our review.

That said, this thesis rests on assumptions that deserve challenge. Are downstream markets large enough for outsized outcomes in India? Does global competition in data and analytics leave room for new entrants? Can Indian firms earn the trust of customers in defence, insurance, or capital markets? Are launch and hardware plays more defensible than we assume?

We seek critique on what this Playbook gets wrong, what it underweights, and what it misses. We invite founders, researchers, operators, investors, and policymakers to share opposing views, alternative theses, and on the ground evidence. The goal is to piece together a sharper map of where Indian spacetech should and should not build.
