Approximately 12% of children in India suffer from neurodevelopmental disorders. Due to social stigma around neurodivergence and insufficient therapist supply, they often struggle to access behavioral therapies that would improve their quality of life.
Butterfly Learnings is building pedagogy, personnel, and expertise for paediatric behavioural therapy. Founded by Dr Sonam Kothari and Dr Abhishek Sen in 2021, it offers a multitude of therapy solutions and support, including Applied Behavioral Analysis (ABA) therapy, to improve social interaction and communication skills in neurodiverse children.
This case study explores the emerging landscape in neurodivergence in India and how Butterfly Learnings is creating and adding value by systematising service provision in paediatric behavioural healthcare. Using the Value Creation framework, it examines if and how Butterfly Learnings’ efforts at building knowledge infrastructure, connections, resources, and a therapist pool have positively impacted therapy outcomes. The case study asks: What would be required for startups in the neurodivergence domain to broaden the spectrum of care and open up access to a wider patient pool.
